Do you have specific skills or knowledge around CV’s and employability? Maybe you have no formal training, but an excellent track record and words of wisdom to impart? Do you have a passion for helping young people to find and stay in employment?

If so, we want to hear from you!

We are in a time of high youth unemployment coupled with benefit sanctions and zero hour’s contracts. More young people than ever are coming to us for help to find or keep a job. As such we urgently need another Employability Mentor so that we can expand our service and see more young people in need of help. We currently run appointments one day a week where we see young people who need a CV, need advice on careers, training, interview techniques or need help with resolving work based issues.
Most of the time you will be writing CV’s for young people and offering advice on issues they are facing around employment, however there are a small percentage of service users who will require follow-up phone calls and continuing mentorship to help them stay focussed on either finding or keeping jobs.

Necessary Skills or Experience:

  • Experience with writing CV’s
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Non-judgemental, positive, and friendly personality
  • Experience (formal or informal) with employability skills

Desirable, but not essential experience:

  • Working with young or vulnerable people
  • Work based welfare benefits

Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. Training and ongoing support and development is provided. A DBS check will be required at no cost to the volunteer. *A criminal record does not necessarily exclude individuals from volunteering at Y.E.S. but the nature, volume and time since the crime(s) will be taken into account and discussed at interview.
